'Carnivale'; Columbia 'Godzilla' rampage; 'Club Dread' redux

Into the Funhouse - 9:01pm

One of the most original shows on television, the underrated and sorta-popular Carnivale: The Complete First Season will hit DVD on December 7th. HBO Home Video will give this one the deluxe box set treatment, complete with all twelve first-season episodes in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, plus three audio commentaries with series creator Daniel Knauf, executive producer Howard Klein and cast & crew, a costume featurette, Museum of TV and Radio panel discussion with the cast and creators, plus episodic recaps. Retail will be $99.95.

Destroy All Monsters - 9:01pm

And you thought Shrek was scary. On October 19th, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will serve up another heaping helping of Godzilla, that giant Japanese lizard who does not wake up in the best of moods. The studio will dust off three more Godzilla "Vs." adventures, all making their DVD debuts: Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. Gigan and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Each will get the usual remastered anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1 surround treatment, plus trailers and a Godzilla bio. Retail will be $24.95 a pop.

And you diehard Godzilla fans can also pick up the mega-seven-disc Godzilla 50th Anniversary Collection, which features the previously released Godzilla 2000, Godzilla Vs. Megaguirus, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla vs. Destroyah, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla and Mothra: the Battle for earth, Godzilla Mothra & King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, and, of course, the dreadful 1998 big budget Hollywood remake. There are no new features, and retail will cost you $121.95 in Godzilla eggs.

Spawn of Satan - 4:44pm

Wrapping up today's news is another double dip release that I'm sure about two people were clamoring for: the Club Dread Unrated Version. Woo-hoo! Fox Home Entertainment will give this one another go on September 28th, and the unrated cut comes with 15 minutes of additional footage (all presented in swanky anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1) plus the same two audio commentaries as on the previous release, plus no less than 22 deleted scenes, promo spots and the theatrical trailer. List price will cost you a mere $19.95.
