Not really a hit but not the disaster many predicted, the big
budget remake of the 70's horror classic The Stepford
Wives grossed a respectable $60-odd million this past
summer, and will hit DVD on October 26th. Paramount Home Entertainment
will give this Nicole Kidman-starrer separate anamorphic widescreen
and full screen versions, each with audio commentary with director
Frank Oz, thirteen deleted scenes, the "Stepford: A Definition,"
"Stepford: The Architects," "Stepford: The Builders,"
"The Stepford Wives" and "The Stepford Husbands"
featurettes, a gag reel and theatrical trailers. Retail will list
for $29.95.

Due to hit stores on October 12th is Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment
latest slate of catalog and TV on DVD releases.
From the vaults comes the Richard Donner nostalgia-fest Radio
Flyer (which boasts unbilled narrator Tom Hanks), the
classic comedy The Wackiest Ship in the Army,
and a new unrated Betty Blue: Director's Cut.
All are remastered in anamorphic widescreen, and include only
trailers as extras. Retail will be $24.95 a pop, except Radio
Flyer, which will go for a lower $19.95 list.
And Stephen King fans can enjoy Stephen King Presents:
Kingdom Hospital - The Complete Series, a four-disc set
that compiles every episode of the short-lived chiller. Presented
in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1 surround, extras include
audio commentary on select episodes, the "Inside the walls:
The Making of Kingdom Hospital" documentary, and three additional
featurettes. Retail will be $49.95.

Just in from The Criterion Collection are four new announcements,
a pair of French favorites and two politically-themed dramas.
Due on October 5th are Robert Altman's Secret Honor and
the complete eleven-episode run of the satirical Tanner
'88. All are presented in 1.33:1 full screen, with the
former in Dolby 1.0 mono and the later with 2.0 stereo mixes.
Secret Honor will also include two audio audio commentaries by
Altman and co-writer Donald Freed, a new interview with actor
Philip Baker Hall, excerpts from archival films documenting key
events in President Richard Nixon's political career, and an essay
by critic Michael Wilmington. Altman and series creator Garry
Trudeau have also contributed a new interview to Tanner '88 set,
which also includes essays by Michael Wilmington, Michael Nash,
and culture critic Garry Kornblau. Retail will be $39.95 and $29.95,
respectively.
Next up on October 19th are the French faves Eyes Without
a Face and Fat Girl, each in anamorphic
widescreen, and the former in Dolby 1.0 mono, and the latter with
both Dolby Digital and (rare for a Criterion release) DTS soundtracks.
Supplements on Eyes Without a Face include the "Blood of
the Beasts" documentary about Paris slaughterhouses, a still
gallery, essays and trailers, while Fat Girl comes with behind-the-scenes
footage, trailers and essays. List will go for $29.95 a pop.
