'That's Entertainment!' box; 'Ed Wood' returns; Universal classic comedy

Let's Dance! - 5:39pm

For sheer entertainment value per minute, there are few documentaries as much fun and fancy free as the That's Entertainment! trilogy. And on October 12th, at last, Warner Home Video will release all three epics for the first time in the four-disc That's Entertainment!: The Complete Collection.

Celebrating the golden age of MGM musicals from the 20s through the 50s, each film will be remastered in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 and the bonus disc, "That's Entertainment!: Treasures From the Vault," will feature a new 30-minute documentary "The Masters of the Musical" with all new interviews, never-before-seen deleted musical numbers, premiere footage, theatrical trailers and more. Retail will list for $49.95, and Warner will also release each film separately (sans the bonus disc) for $19.95 a pop.

Also announced by Warner is Kenneth Branagh's Henry VIII, which will make its DVD debut on November 16th. Remastered in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, the only extra is the theatrical trailer. List price will go for $29.95.

Classic Comedy - 5:39pm

Two legends of comedy, W.C. Fields and the Marx Brothers, will be getting the box set treatment courtesy of Universal Studios Home Video. Due on November 9th, The W.C. Fields Comedy Collection will include The Bank Dick, International House, It's a Gift, My Little Chickadee and You Can't Cheat an Honest Man, while The Marx Brothers Silver Screen Collection boasts Animal Crackers, The Cocoanuts, Duck Soup, Horse Feathers and Monkey Business. each is presented in remastered 1.33:1 full screen and Dolby mono. There are no extras on either, and retail for each box will list for $59.95 apiece.

Also just announced from Universal is a September 28th street date for a new reissue of the 1979 chiller Dracula, starring Frank Langella. Featuring a new anamorphic widescreen remaster and a Dolby Digital 2.0 surround track, extras include the theatrical trailer. List price will be $14.95.

Rounding out Universal's announcements is Buck Rogers in the 21st Century: The Complete Epic Series. Presented in newly-remastered 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, the set will include additional supplements, but full details have yet to be announced. But stay tuned, and street date is November 16th and retail $89.95.

Angora Fetish - 5:39pm

Think this time it will finally come out? Just announced is the third (or perhaps fourth?) new release date for the long-delayed Ed Wood. Tim Burton's critically-acclaimed ode to the Worst Director of All-Time is now set for an October 19th release. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, extras include an audio commentary with Burton, actor Martin Landau, co-writers Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski, costume designer Colleen Atwood, and cinematographer Stefan Czapsky, deleted scenes, a music video, the theatrical trailer, and six featurettes: "Let's Shoot this F#$%@r!", "Making Bela," "Pie Plates Over Hollywood," "Theremin" and "When Carol Met Larry." Let's hope this time is the charm, and list price will be $29.95.
