'Raising Helen,' Moore's 'Big One'; 'Carandiru' SE; Home Vision trio
Isn't She Adorable? - 2:33pm

Even with cute little Kate Hudson on the poster (complete with a pair of oh-so-last-year ugh boots), nothing could stop Raising Helen from hitting the box office dustbin. The Garry Marshall-directed romantic comedy slash kiddie pic will get a second chance to "steal your heart" on October 12th when it hits DVD. Buean Vista Home Entertainment will include both anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary by Marshall and the screenwriters, deleted scenes, a blooper reel, a Liz Phair music video and theatrical trailers. Retail will be an ugh-inducing $29.95.

And although Disney elected not to release Michael Moore's uber-controversial Fahrenheit 9/11, they will give The Big One a spin on DVD on September 28th. This "funny but eye-opening" expose on American big business, the disc will include a new 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 2.0 surround track and bonus trailers. Retail will list for $19.95.

Jailhouse Rock - 2:33pm

Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will have a slimmer-than-usual lineup of new catalog titles for release on September 21st, three to be exact.

Fans of the dark and disturbing can look forward to the horror thriller Asylum of the Damned, which comes complete with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby 2.0 surround track and trailers, and a special edition of the acclaimed Hector Babenco prison drama Carandiru. Also presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1 surround, extras include audio commenatry with Babenco, the "Making of Carandiru" featurette, seven deleted scenes, two short films ("State Penitentiary - 1928" and "Carandiru's Implosion"), and theatrical trailers. Retail will cost you $24.95 and $29.95, respectively.

Also due for release on the 21st is the little seen dramatic comedy Twenty Bucks. From the makers of Spinal Tap, this star-studded flick follows the path of one lucky $20 bill as it crosses hands and fates. Presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 surround, there are no extras aside from bonus trailers. Retail will list for $24.95.

28 Days Later - 2:33pm

Rounding out today's news is the latest batch of announcements from Home Vision Entertainment, who along with The Criterion Collection are the premiere supplier of the cinema elite on DVD.

Hitting stores on September 21st are famed director Yoshitaro Nomura's The Demon and Zero Focus, both of which will get new anamorphic widescreen transfers, remastered Japanese monoaural soundtracks, a director filmography, new liner notes and theatrical trailers for each. Retail will be $19.95 a pop.

And making its U.S. premier on the 21st is Lar Von Trier's caustic Epidemic. Remastered in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby mono, extras include an audio commentary by von Trier, the documentary "Freedogme," a liner interview with von Trier, and a director filmography. List price? $29.95.
