'Friday the 13th' box set; new 'Resident Evil,' 'Species' SEs
Jason Lives - 2:00pm

He's got a face only a mother could love and wields one very mean machete. His name is Jason Voorhees, and he's the antithesis of Santa Claus: if he finds out you've been naughty instead of nice, he won't just pass over your house for presents, he'll grab the fireplace poker, stab you twenty times and stomp on your remains. And that's just for starters.

Now, he's finally getting a DVD big enough to hold him. Ready to slash its way to stores in time for Halloween, Friday the 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan - The Ultimate Edition DVD Collection will arrive on October 5th from Paramount Home Entertainment. While fans undoubtedly hoped for uncut, bloodier versions of all eight of the Paramount flicks, the set will include the R-rated cuts of each film (all in anamorphic widescreen, with parts 1 to 5 in Dolby mono, 6 and 8 in 2.0 surround, and only 7 in full blown 5.1) spread two pics apiece across four dual-layer discs. Extras include audio commentaries on Parts 3, 6, 7 and 8, plus the "Killer Extras" bonus disc with five featurettes, trailers for all of the flicks and deleted scenes and censored footage. Paramount has set no retail price, but suggested list will be around $59.95. Due on September 7th, this two disc set includes a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 track, two audio commentaries with the cast and filmmakers and the second with the visual effects team, five featurettes scene on the previous edition plus six brand-new featurettes on the film's effects, an alternate ending with new introduction by director Paul Anderson, the "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" clip compilation and theatrical trailers. List price will cost ya $19.95.

Metamorphosis - 2:00pm

Rounding out all the scary new announcements today is yet another new special edition reissue, of Friday the 13th producer Frank Mancuso's sci-fi horror hit Species. Starring Natasha Henstridge and her appendages, MGM Home Entertainment will debut this new deluxe edition on October 19th. The disc will come with a new 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, a new audio commentary track with director Roger Donaldson and actors Michael Madsen and Natasha Henstridge, a second commentary track with Donaldson, Mancuso, visual effects supervisor Richard Edlund and makeup effects creator Steve Johnson, a "Species 3" sneak peek and the theatrical trailer.
