'Mean Girls'; 'Clifford's Really Big Movie'; Columbia August lineup

High School Confidential - 1:58pm

Don't piss them off! The breakout hit of the year, the Mean Girls are going to hit DVD on September 21st, so hide your burn books. Paramount Home Entertainment will give this $85 million hit the special edition treatment, complete with anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary with director Mark Waters and writer Tina Fey, featurettes, deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer. Retail will cost you $29.95.

Also just announced from Paramount is the debut of the cleanest TV family this side of the Waltons, the god-fearing Camden clan of 7th Heaven: The Complete First Season. This squeaky-clean box set will feature 4:3 full screen transfers, Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo tracks and no announced extras. Retail will cost you a heavenly $89.95 (does God get a cut?).

Dog House - 1:58pm

How big is really big? Found out on August 24th when Warner Home Video releases Clifford's Really Big Movie, starring America's favorite big red dog. Featuring both anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions plus a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, extras include the documentary "Inside the Dog House," plus the "Cleo's Crafts" featurette, a "Big Time" music video and sing-along, the " Star of the Show" and "Amazing Animals" read-alongs, and the theatrical trailer. Retail will list for $26.95.

Battle of the Asps - 1:58pm

Call it the curse of Freddy Vs. Jason and a $85 million box office gross. Now we get to suffer the onslaught of "Vs." movies, from the fairly intriguing (Alien Vs. Predator) to the completely inane, starting with the latest direct-to-video epic from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, Boa Vs. Python. That's right, two C-movie "franchises" are now going head-to-head in the CGI battle of the century! Debuting on August 24th, the disc will include an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track and bonus trailers. List price will go for $24.95.

Also due on August 24th are two first-time-on-DVD releases from the Columbia catalog: the Warren Beatty drama Lilith, and Richard Brooks' Lord Jim. Both are remastered in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, and contain no extras aside from bonus trailers. Retail will cost you $24.95 apiece.

Rounding out Columbia's August 24th lineup is a new special edition reissue of the indie drama Raising Victor Vargas. Again presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 surround, extras include a new cast and crew commentary, the short film "Five Feet High and Rising" upon which the film was based plus a featurette on the short's journey to the big screen, a still gallery and theatrical trailers. List price will go for $24.95.
