Cowboy
Bebop - 1:20pm
Remember the Alamo? Apparently, very few people did, or cared
to. Released just two months ago to mediocre reviews and even
worse box office, The Alamo proved to be a costly
and embarrassing flop for beleaguered Disney. Buena Vista Home
Entertainment will give the flick another shot on DVD on September
28th, complete with a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby
Digital 5.1 surround track, the "Return of a Legend: the Making
of the Alamo," "Walking in the Footprints of Heroes"
and "Deep in the Heart of Texans" featurettes, deleted
scenes with optional commentary by director John Lee Hancock,
and theatrical trailers. List price will be $29.95.
Speaking of box office bombs, on September 14th Buena Vista will
also release the latest Kevin Smith tankeroo Jersey Girl,
starring Ben Affleck and featuring a cameo by Jennifer Lopez.
(While not as bad as Gigli, that is not saying much.) Presented
in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1, extras include an audio
commentary with Smith and Affleck; deleted scenes; a featurette
and theatrical trailers. Retail will also list for $29.95.
Dial H for Hitchcock - 1:20pm
At last, Warner Home Video will celebrate the legendary Alfred
Hitchcock with his own seven-disc box set. Available individually
or as part of the Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection
(which also includes the previously released North by Northwest,
with disc contents the same), the titles newly restored and remastered
for the collection include: Dial M for Murder
(in 2-D only), Foreign Correspondent, I
Confess, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Stage
Fright, Strangers on a Train, Suspicion
and The Wrong Man. All are presented in their
original aspect ratios and include theatrical trailers. Strangers
on a Train will be a two-disc set, and also include the original-release
version of the film as well as the preview version newly-discovered
in 1991, plus an audio commentary with director Peter Bogdanovich,
screenwriter Joseph Stephano, author Patricia Highsmith and biographer
Andrew Wilson, a new documentary, an appreciation by director
M. Night Shyamalan, and newsreel footage. Retail will be $19.95
for each individual title, $26.95 for Strangers on a Train, and
$99.95 for the nine-disc box set.
