'Black Hole,' 'Darby O'Gill'; Columbia August titles; Anchor Bay horrors

In Space... - 2:47pm

...No one can hear you scream. Or laugh. On August 24th, Buena Vista Home entertainment will release a couple of cheesy but beloved old favorites, The Black Hole and the Lucky Charms-inspired Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Both will get remastered anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks, their respective theatrical trailers, plus additional extras: a new making-of featurette on The Black Hole, and "Cast Member," "Little People, Big Effects" and "I Captured the King of the Leprechauns" featurettes on Darby O'Gill. Retail will list for $19.95 a pop.

Farewell to the Flesh - 2:47pm

Look in the mirror and say it five times...if you dare! On August 17th, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release a new special edition of the cult classic Candyman, based on a short story by Clive Barker. Presented in a newly remastered 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby 2.0 surround, extras include a new audio commentary with director Bernard Rose, the "Sweets to the Sweet: The Candyman Mythos" and "Clive Barker: Raising Hell" featurettes, storyboard comparisons and theatrical trailers. Retail will be $19.95.

And if Candyman isn't enough to scare you, Columbia will release the Rutger Hauer thriller Past Midnight. Featuring an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 2.0 surround track and bonus trailers. Retail will list for $19.95. Also due for release on the 17th is the foreign import Bon Voyage, the tale of four very different people embroiled in a Nazi plot to steal a top-secret formula. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and French Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, extras include an audio commentary by director Jean-Paul Rappeneau and theatrical trailers.

Deadtime Stories - 2:47pm

"From the mind of horror master Kevin S. Tenney" comes two cult favorites on August 24th, courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. Remember the laugh-fests Witchboard, starring a pre-Whitesnake Tawny Kitaen, or Night of the Demons, featuring Linnea Quigley's infamous "lipstick in the boob" gag? Well, now you can relive the magic again and again when both arrive with new 1.85 anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby 1.0 mono and 2.0 stereo tracks, respectively, and audio commentaries on both discs with director Kevin Tenney, executive producer Walter Josten and producer Jeff Geoffray, plus theatrical trailers and TV spots. Witchboard also includes a making-of featurette, while Night of the Demons boasts the "My Demon Nights with Linnea Quigley" featurette and the original promo reel. Retail will cost you $19.95 a pop.
