Where the Wild Things Are - 2:47pm
Another disappointment for Walt Disney, the traditional cel animated
non-hit Home On the Range failed to reverse the
CGI landslide and tanked at the box office this past winter. The
House of Mouse will give the cute little flick another shot on
September 14th, with a special edition DVD filled with goodies.
Presented yet again in "family-friendly" 1.66:1 anamorphic
widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, extras include a making-of featurette,
deleted scenes, an art gallery, "Yodel Mania" interactive
game, "Joke Corral" gags, the "Anytime You Need
A Friend" music video and theatrical trailers. Retail will
be $29.95.
Can You Smell What's Cookin'? - 2:47pm
His name is The Rock, and you better not piss him off or he will
clobber you with a two-by-four. MGM Home Entertainment will debut
his latest slug-fest, a remake of the 70's cult classic Walking
Tall, on August 3rd. Presented in anamorphic widescreen
and Dolby 5.1, extras include a featurette, two audio commentaries
with The Rock and the second with director Kevin Bray, director
of photography Glenn MacPhearson and editor Robert Ivison, deleted
scenes and an alternate ending, blooper reel and theatrical trailers.
List price will go for $27.95.

Oh, c'mon now, you knew it was coming. At last, the DVD event
of all time! On August 31st, Paramount Home Entertainment will
at last release Touched by an Angel: The Complete First
Season. Presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo,
there are no extras, but aren't the episodes enough? Retail will
be $49.95.
More TV on DVD from Paramount due the 31st includes
Survivor: All Stars - The Complete Season, which also
boasts 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby 2.0 stereo tracks,
plus bonus footage, four new featurettes, Survivor profiles, and
audio commentary from your favorite Survivors on nine episodes.
All this fun will cost you a mere $49.95. And classic TV lovers
can enjoy I Love Lucy: The Complete Second Season,
which boasts 4:3 full screen transfers, Dolby Digital mono tracks,
deleted footage, lost scenes, outtakes, three featurettes, the
original openings, a Lucy radio show, and guest cast info. Retail
will be $59.95.
For the young teen crowd, Paramount will also release a number
of new Nickelodeon titles on the 31st: All Grown Up: Lucky
13 (which includes four episodes of the hit series),
three installments in the Curious Buddies series,
Exploring at the Beach, Helping at Home
and Look and Listen at the Park (each with bonus
audio commentary, a still gallery, song selection and a video
sampler), and Dora the Explorer: Dora's Halloween
(with two bonus episodes and an interactive games). Each features
4:3 full screen transfers and will list for $16.95 a pop.
Last but not least, we have a special one-off South Park:
The Passion of the Jew. This incendiary parody of Mel
Gibson's The Passion of the Christ will also hit DVD on the 31st,
feature a 4:3 full screen transfer and Dolby 2.0 surround track,
plus two bonus episodes: "Christian Rock Hard" and "Red
Hot Catholic Love." All this can be yours for $19.95.
