'Johnson Family Vacation,' Fox and Columbia TV on DVD; Warner family fun

The Huxtables meet the Griswolds in the sleeper hit Johnson Family Vacation, which will hit DVD on August 10th from Fox Home Entertainment. Available in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, extras include audio commentary with Bow Wow, Cedric the Entertainer, director Christopher Erskin and producer Eric Rhone, a second track with writers Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones, the "On the Set of Johnson Family Vacation" featurette, 18 deleted scenes with optional commentary and theatrical trailers. Retail will be $27.95.

And due on August 24th from Fox are two new TV on DVD releases. From the mind of X-Files creator Chris Carter comes the short-lived Harsh Realm: The Complete Series. This three-disc set includes 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby Digital 2.0 surround tracks, plus audio commentary by Carter and Dan Sackheim on the pilot, "Inside The Harsh Realm" and "Creating the Logo & Title Sequence" featurettes, TV spots and theatrical trailers for other Fox sci-fi titles. Retail will list for $39.95. Also due on the 24th is Futurama: Volume 4. Again presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, the copious extras include audio commentary on sixteen episodes, deleted scenes, international clips, animatics, an audio-only table read, and rare footage from a Star Trek panel. Retail will cost you $49.95.

Speak softly and carry a big stick. On August 3rd, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release the little-seen indie drama Tiptoes, starring Matthew McConaughy and Kate Beckinsdale. PResented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, extras include a director commentary and trailers. Retail will list for $24.95.

Columbia will also release two new TV on DVD titles on the 3rd: Gidget: The Complete Collection and Significant Others: The Series, starring a pre-Alias Jennifer Garner. Both feature 4:3 full screen transfers and remastered Dolby mono and 2.0 stereo soundtracks, respectively, Neither includes any extras aside from episode synopses, and retail will set you back $24.95 a pop.

Dog and Fish Show - 1:23am

Rounding out today's news are three new family favorites from Warner Home Video. The studio will release Lassie Come Home, Son of Lassie and The Courage of Lassie, plus the 1996 update of Flipper and Flipper's New Adventure on August 24th. All will be presented in their original theatrical aspect ratios and sound configurations (1.33:1 and mono for the Lassie flicks, and 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 2.0 surround for the Flipper duo), plus theatrical trailers. There are no other announced extras, and retail will be $14.95 a pop.
