It is going to be princesses and paranoid schizophrenics this
August when Paramount Home Entertainment unleashes two of their
recent box office hopefuls, each a financial disappointment but
both likely to find wider audiences on DVD.
First up on August 10th is the Martha Coolidge romantic comedy
The Prince & Me, Starring Julia Stiles. Available
in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, each
includes a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary
with Coolidge, two featurettes, a music video and trailers. Retail
will be $29.95.
Due on August 31st is the Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman thriller
Twisted. Also to be released in anamorphic widescreen
and full screen versions, each with a Dolby Digital 5.1 track,
extras include audio commentary with director Philip Kaufman,
the "Creating A Twisted Web Of Intrigue" and "The
Investigators: The Clues Of Crime" featurettes, a "Cutting
Room Floor" deleted scene feature with optional commentary,
and theatrical trailers. Retail will also list for $29.95.
Other Paramount August titles include the religious thriller
The Reckoning on August 3rd, and another Kaufman thriller,
1974's The White Dawn, on August 31. Both will
be presented in anamorphic widescreen, and the Kaufman title includes
an intro by the director, his audio commentary, and the "Welcoming
The Dawn" and " A Way Of Life: The World Of The Inuit
Eskimos." Retail will be $29.95 and $14.95, respectively.
Rounding out Paramount's latest announcements is two more TV
on DVD releases. Streeting on August 17th are the immortal classics
Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley,
each of will get The Complete First Season treatment. Presented
in remastered 4:3 full screen, extras, if any, have not yet been
announced, and retail will cost you $49.95 each. Stay tuned for
more.
And finally, you Jason fans can look forward to that long-awaited
Friday the 13th box set of all eight Paramount
flicks in the series on September 28th. Watch for a full press
release in early June.
Ever After - 11:03pm
"The perfect film for the whole family!", on August
24th Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release the sorta-hit
Ella Enchanted in not very family-friendly full
frame only. Loaded with special features, extras include audio
commentary with director Tommy O'Haver and stars Anne Hathaway
and Hugh Darcy, "The Magical World of Ella Enchanted"
featurette, deleted scenes, premiere footage, a music video, interactive
game and trailers. Why no widescreen? Who knows? In any case,
retail will list for $29.95.
Queens of the Desert - 11:03pm
It didn't make a Big Fat Greek Killing at the box office, but
Universal Studios Home Video will give the Nia Vardalos drag comedy
Connie & Carla another shot at camp classic
status on August 17th. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen
with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks, there are no announced
extras aside from the usual filmographies, production notes and
trailers. List price will cost you $29.95 in lipstick.

of Richard Linklater's Dazed & Confused: Flashback
Edition, which will hit the streets on September 14th.

include a new audio commentary with Linklater, deleted scenes
and trailers. Retail will be $19.95. Universal will also release
the seminal 80's teen classic Fast Times at Ridgemont
High on the 14th, now available in separate anamorphic
widescreen and full screen editions. Each boasts the same extras
