Kicking off the week's news is the return of one of the biggest
superheroes of all time in a new animated collection. On June
29th, Buena Vista Home Entertainment will again ride the Spider-Man
juggernaut and release Spider-Man: The '67 Collection.
Available on DVD for the first time ever, Spidey’s classic
1967 animated adventures are brought together in a six-DVD set

the original 1967 TV series. Although there are no extras announced,
each episode is remastered in its original 4:3 full screen and
Dolby 2.0 stereo. Retail will cost you $59.95.

Rounding out today's news is the latest batch of catalog announcements
from MGM Home Entertainment. While the studio normally releases
a gargantuan amount of new releases every month, their August
lineup will be relatively sparse, but will certainly prove a boon
to camp connoisseurs.
Due on August 24th is the notorious Golan-Globus musical The
Apple (which must be seen to be believed), Cher in Chasity
and the William Friedkin-directed Good Times,
the beauty pageant comedy Smile, Linda Blair's
hilarious classic Roller Boogie, the psychedelic
oddity Zachariah, and the coming of age dramas
Joyride and A Small Circle of Friends.
All are presented in anamorphic widescreen (except Joyride and
Smile, which are 1.85:1 non-anamorphic only), and include theatrical
trailers. Retail will be $14.95 a pop.
Horror fans can look forward to a double feature disc of The
Night Stalker and The Night Strangler on
the 24th, each presented in their original 4:3 full screen aspect
ratio and Dolby mono, plus a bonus interview featurette for each.
MGM will also reissue three Hannibal Lecter favorites
(The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal and Manhunter) at a new low
price $14.95. Note that both Lambs and Hannibal are the same versions
as previously released, although Manhunter is a new full frame-only
release of the theatrical cut only, plus a trailer. No word on
whether MGM will be releasing the extended/director's cut previously
issued by Anchor Bay. Stay tuned...
