Columbia June titles; 'Mulan' comes to DVD; cult horror classics from Blue Underground
Picture Perfect - 2:28pm

Kicking off today's news is Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's June 29th lineup of new catalog and TV on DVD announcements.

First up is the little-seen thriller 3 Way, starring Ari Larter, Dwight Yoakam and Gina Gershon. Columbia will present the film in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, but extras are slim: only trailers and filmographies. Retail will be $24.95.

Next up is the 80's teen cult fave No Small Affair, starring Demi Moore and Jon Cryer. Remastered in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 4.0 surround, extras include only bonus trailers. List price will go for $19.95.

And finally, the gang from Capeside is back in Dawson's Creek: The Complete Third Season. Presented in its original 4:3 full screen aspect ratio and Dolby 2.0 surround, extras include a featurette and audio commentary with series creators Greg Berlanti and Paul Stupin on two episodes, plus episode synopses. Retail will cost you $49.95.

Lost in Translation - 2:28pm

Just in from Buena Vista Home Entertainment is the return of the Disney 1998 animated smash Mulan, which will get a new two-disc special edition on October 26th. Released once before on DVD back in 1998 in a bare bones edition, the studio will heavily market this new redux along with their upcoming Platinum Edition of Aladdin. While bonus features have not yet been announced, this two-disc set will feature a remastered anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, bonus featurettes, games and more to come. Retail will be $29.95, and stay tuned for the full details in the coming weeks.

Scary Movies - 2:29pm

Rounding out today's news is the announcement of three cult exploitation classics, two making their DVD debuts.

Fast making a name for themselves as one of the best suppliers of indie special editions today, Blue Underground will release two more cult faves on June 29th. Bob Clark's "Monkey's Paw" update Deathdream will be remastered in anamorphic widescreen and cleaned-up Dolby Digital mono, along with two audio commentaries with Clark and screenwriter Alan Ormsby, the featurettes "Tom Savini: The Early Years" and "Deathdreaming: Interview with Star Richard Backus," alternate opening and ending sequences, still galleries and the theatrical trailer. Also getting a new reissue on DVD on the 29th is Uncle Sam: I Want You...Dead!, which is also remastered in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1, and includes two audio commentaries with director William Lustig, writer Larry Cohen and producer George G. Braunstein, and Lustig and star Isaac Hayes, a partial "Fire Stunts" commentary by stunt coordinator Spiro Razatos, a still gallery and theatrical trailer. Retail for each will be $19.95.

And coming from Cult Epics on June 29th is the infamous Abel Ferrara cult nasty The Driller Killer. This limited edition (10,000 copies) two-disc set includes a remastered anamorphic widescreen transfer of the uncut version, plus an audio commentary by Ferrara, early short films by the auteur ("Could This Be Love," "The Hold Up" and "Nicky's Film," each also with commentary by Ferrara), a still gallery, trailer and collectible booklet. Retail will be $29.95.
