'Mary Poppins' returns; :Fox TV on DVD; 'Beverly Hills 90210' arrives

Just in from Fox Home Entertainment is their latest batch of June announcements.

First up we have The Simpsons: The Complete Fourth Season, which streets on June 15th. Presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, extras include audio commentary on every episode with creator Matt Groening and a revolving crew of filmmakers, two "Animation Showcases" with picture-in-picture storyboards and illustrations, additional animatics, a promotional syndication reel, ten deleted scenes, extensive stills including sketches and conceptual art, a bonus easter egg commentary, the "Bush vs. Simpsons" featurette, and more. Retail list for $69.95.

Next up is more TV on DVD. Debuting on June 29th is Garfield as Himself, which is presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 mono, and includes three bonus episodes, "Here Comes Garfield," "Garfield On The Town" and "Garfield Gets A Life." Retail will be $14.95. And hitting stores on June 8th is M*A*S*H: The Complete Sixth Season, which again features 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby mono tracks, with or without the laugh track. There are no extras, and retail will be $39.95.

Finally, we have the full specs for Ron Howard's Cocoon, which will make its DVD debut on June 1st. Featuring both anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, extras include a new audio commentary by Howard, "Behind the Scenes," "Ron Howard: Profile," "Underwater Training," "Actors" and "Creating Antareans" mini-featurettes, a still gallery, trailers and TV spots. Retail will be a mere $14.95.

The Classic is Back - 2:08pm

At last getting the special edition DVD it has long deserved, on December 7th Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release the Mary Poppins: 40th Anniversary Edition. This two-disc set will include a new anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, plus a brand-new live action and animated sequence reuniting the film's stars, Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, with music by Oscar-winner Richard Sherman. This new musical number is exclusive to the DVD, which also will boast such extras as a new audio commentary (participants TBA), multiple featurettes, rare television and promotional footage, interactive games, stills and trailers. Retail will be $29.95, and watch for more details to be announced in the months ahead.

Hollywood High - 5:29pm

Rounding out today's news is an announcement sure to make someone out there happy, the arrival of one of the campiest teen TV series ever. On June 15th, Lion's Gate Home Entertainment will release Beverly Hills 90210: The Pilot Episode. Presented in 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo, there are no extras, but perhaps this is a sign of better things to come for 90210 fans. Retail will cost you $14.95.
