They're back to make you laugh and cut your hair. They're the
gang of Barbershop 2: Back in Business, which
will hit DVD on June 29th. MGM Home Entertainment will give the
medium-sized hit a loaded special edition, complete with anamorphic
widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, a cast
video commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes, two music videos and
trailers. Retail is $27.95.
MGM has also just announced their July lineup of new catalog
releases, led by a new special edition reissue of the John Frankenheimer
classic The Manchurian Candidate. Remastered
in 1.75:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1 surround, extras
include an audio commentary with the late Frankenheimer, interviews
with Frankenheimer, Frank Sinatra and George Axelrod, two featurettes
with William Friedkin and Angela Lansbury, trivia and production
notes, a still gallery and the theatrical trailer. Retail will
be only $14.95 and street date is July 13th.
Due on July 6th are more catalog gems: Charlie Chan in
the Secret Service, The Chinese Cat,
The Jade Mask, Meeting at Midnight,
The Scarlet Clue and The Shanghai Cobra
(all in 1.33:1 full screen and Dolby mono), plus Kotch,
Lovers and Other Strangers, Woody Allen's Take
the Money and Run and Suppose They Gave a war
and Nobody Came?. All are in non-anamorphic widescreen
(except Kotch and Take the Money and Run, which are full screen
only) and mono. All of the above feature no extras, not even trailers,
and retail will be $14.95. (The six Chan titles are also available
in a special box set The Charlie Chan Chanthology,
which includes no additional extras and will list for $69.95.)

Just in from Warner Home Video is the return of one of the most
beloved comedies of the 70's, Blazing Saddles.
The studio will commemorate its three-decade birthday on June
29th with a new 30th Anniversary DVD, featuring a newly-remastered
anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track
and plenty of extras: additional scenes, an audio commentary by
Mel Brooks, the "Back in the Saddle" reunion documentary,
"Intimate Portrait: Madeline Kahn" featurette and "Black
Bart," the 1975 TV pilot inspired by the movie; starring
Lou Gossett Jr. and Steve Landesberg.
Warner will also release another Brooks comedy on the 29th, the
horror spoof Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Also
presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1, extras include
a new audio commentary with Brooks, writers Rudy DeLuca and Steve
Haberman and actors Steven Weber and Amy Yasbeck and the theatrical
trailer. List price for each will be $19.95 a pop.

Rounding out today's news is the latest TV on DVD release from
Paramount Home Entertainment. Hitting shelves on June 29th is
CSI Miami: The Complete First Season, the spin-off
of the phenomenally popular original series. All 24 episodes will
be presented in 1.78 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1
surround, and extras include audio commentaries by the creative
team on select episodes, plus five featurettes: "CSI: Miami
Uncovered," "Creating CSI: Miami," "Production
of Handling Evidence," "The Autopsy Theater Tour"
and "The Gun Lab Tour." Retail will list for $84.95.
