'Monster' due June; 'Butterfly Effect' gets a new cut; 'SCTV' makes DVD debut

A Stitch in Time - 2:13pm

Just in from New Line Home Entertainment is the latest addition to their Infinifilm line, the Ashton Kutcher thriller The Butterfly Effect. A mid-level hit at the box office this past winter, New Line will pull out all of the stops for the DVD, which includes both the original theatrical cut and a new Director's Cut on the same disc. Each will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital Surround EX (the Director's Cut also provides a DTS 6.1 ES option), and include a plethora of extras: the Infinifilm version of each flick, "Beyond the Movie" features ("The Science and Psychology of the Chaos Theory" and "History and Allure of Time Travel" featurettes and a subtitle trivia fact track), "All Access Pass" extras (audio commentary with director and screenwriter Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber, deleted scenes, "The Creative Process" and "Visual Effects" featurettes, a storyboard gallery and theatrical trailers) and extensive DVD-ROM content that is MCE-enhanced for playback on Windows Media Center PCs (ScriptViewer for the Director's Cut, a commentary digest, still gallery, scene medleys and weblinks). Retail for the set will be $27.95.

Some Kind of 'Monster' - 2:13pm

Who thought beauty and the beast could be the same person? Featuring Chalize Theron's amazing, transformative and Oscar-winning performance, Monster, the story of real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos, will come to DVD on June 1st. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has picked up DVD distribution rights to one of last year's biggest indie hits, and will give the flick an anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, and also include a making-of featurette, an interview with filmmaker Patty Jenkins and composer Brian Transeau and theatrical trailers. Retail will be $26.95.

Great White way - 2:13pm

At last coming to DVD, the groundbreaking Canadian sketch-comedy show SCTV Network 90: Volume 1 is due for release on June 8th. Collecting the first nine 90-minute episodes that ran on NBC in 1981 (the show originally aired beginning in 1976 as a 30-minute show), each episode will be presented in remastered 4:3 full screen and Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo. Extras include audio commentaries on each episode with cast members Joe Flaherty and Eugene Levy; the "SCTV Remembers," "Origins of SCTV," "The Craft of SCTV" and "Remembering John" featurettes, HBO's 1999 "SCTV Reunion" special hosted by Conan O'Brien, and a 24-page booklet with rare photos and essays by O'Brien, SCTV producer Andrew Alexander and journalist Don Waller, plus tributes by Ben Stiller, Fred Willard, Dan Aykroyd and Dr. John. List price will be $89.95.
