'Dukes of Hazzard' box; 'English Patient' SE; new 'Star Wars' artwork

Demolition Derby - 2:11pm

Oh, c'mon now, you knew it was coming. Since just about every other even half-decent 80's television series seems to be getting a DVD release, why not Sheriff Lobo and the boys? Now you can relive the magic starting ont June 1st when Warner Home Video releases The Dukes of Hazzard: The Complete First Season. Chock full of extras, this five-disc set includes remastered 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby Digital 2.0 mono tracks, audio commentary by John Schneider and Catherine Bach on the episode "One Armed Bandits," the "20th Anniversary Hazzard County Barbeque" reunion documentary, "Dukes Driving 101: A High Octane Salute" featurette, and a video game trailer. Retail will cost you $39.95.

On May 25th Warner will also release two little-seen but star-studded dramas, Shade, starring Gabriel Byrne, Melanie Griffith and Sylvester Stallone, and Head Above Water, with Cameron Diaz. Each is presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, with only trailers as extras. Retail will be $26.95 and $19.95, respectively.

Like Sands in the Hourglass - 2:11pm

The Miramax Collector's Series reissues continue to pile up, as Buena Vista Home Entertainment has just announced The English Patient for a June 29th DVD release. Already issued once on the format back in 1998 in a very lackluster, movie-only edition, this multiple Oscar winner will at last get the two-disc deluxe treatment. Remastered in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, extras include two audio commentaries with director Anthony Minghella and a second edited interview track with cast & crew, plus the "A Passionate Journey" and "From Novel to Screen: Michael Ondaatje" featurettes, deleted scenes, additional interviews with producer Saul Zaentz, Minghella and Ondaatje, text film reviews and theatrical trailers. Retail will be $29.95.

The Force - 2:11pm

Rounding out today's news, Lucasfilm has just unveiled the final artwork for the Star Wars Trilogy special edition box set, which needless to say is one of the most eagerly awaited DVD releases of all time, if not the most. Distributed by Fox Home Entertainment, Episodes IV, V and VI will be released in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen sets, images for which are both revealed below. Expect additional artwork for the individual discs inside the box to be released this week. Stay tuned!
