'SWAT,' Columbia's final 2003 lineup; new 'Alice in Wonderland'

Cop Rock - 10:22pm

Kicking off this week's news is the latest batch of announcements from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, their last for 2003. Debuting on December 30th is the $100 million-grossing S.W.A.T., a hi-tech update of the classic 70's television show. To be made available in separate 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen versions, each with English and French Dolby 5.1 tracks, extras include an audio commentary with director Clark Johnson and cast, a second track with screenwriters David Ayer & David McKenna and technical advisor Ed Arneson, eight deleted scenes, the "The Making of SWAT," "Anatomy of a Shootout," "SWAT: TV's Original Super Cops" and "6th Street Bridge" featurettes, a "The Sounds of SWAT" interactive map, blooper reel and theatrical trailers. Retail is $27.95.

Also making their DVD debuts are two little-seen theatrical releases, Belly of the Beast and So Close. Each comes presented in anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks, the latter in its original Mandarin as well as Cantonese and English dubs. The only extras are trailers, and retail will be $24.95 a pop.

Down the Rabbit Hole - 10:22pm

More exciting news just in is a January 27th arrival for a new Masterpiece Edition of the Disney classic Alice in Wonderland. Buena Vista Home Entertainment will stock this perennial favorite with two full discs worth of goodies: remastered 1.33:1 full screen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, all-new introductions, the "One Hour in Wonderland" and "The Fred Waring Show" specials, the "An Alice Comedy: Alice's Wonderland" and "Operation Wonderland" featurettes, abandoned concepts, deleted storyboards, song demos, an art gallery, "Virtual Wonderland Party" activities, two sing-alongs, the "Adventures in Wonderland" interactive game, a bonus "Through the Mirror" animated short, and theatrical trailers. Retail is $29.95.
