Get yer stinkin' paws off me, you damn dirty ape! Yes, those
crazy chimps are back. On February 3rd, Fox Home Entertainment
will release a new 35th Anniversary Edition of the 1968 classic
Planet of the Apes. What can fans expect this
go-round? How about separate 4:3 full screen and (at last) a new
2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen versions, each with a Dolby Digital
5.1 remix and so many extras it takes two discs to hold it all:
two audio commentaries with Roddy McDowell, Natalie Trundy, Kim
Hunter and effects artist John Chambers, plus a second commentary/isolated
score with composer Jerry Goldsmith, a text commentary by Eric
Greene, the "Behind The Planet Of The Apes" documentary,
exclusive Roddy McDowall home movies, rare dailies and outtakes,
the featurettes "A Look Behind The Planet Of The Apes,"
"Don Taylor Directs Escape from the Planet of the Apes,"
"J. Lee Thompson Directs Conquest of the Planet of the Apes"
and the original EPK, multiple still galleries including photos,
production art and film reviews, and trailers for all of the Apes
flicks. Retail is $26.95.
Also just announced from Fox is the studio's January 13th lineup
of foreign film, direct-to-video and limited release flicks: Lucia
Lucia, La Ley de Herodes, Por
La Libre and Sin Dejar Huella, plus
Heart of Dragon, Eastern Condor,
My Lucky Stars, Duel to the Death
and In the Line of Duty 4. All are presented
in their original aspect ratios and, for the theatrical releases,
include trailers. Retail is $19.95 for the foreign releases and
$9.95 for the rest.
Fans
of bad B-movies will get the chance to check out Brian Helgeland's
recent box office bust The Order, which debuts
on December 30th. THis special edition includes an anamorphic
widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, audio commentary
with Helgeland, 8 deleted scenes with optional commentary and
the trailer. Retail is $27.95.
Rounding out Fox's latest announcements are numerous TV on DVD
releases. Angel: Season Three streets on February
10th and includes 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby
2.0 surround tracks, plus audio commentary on the episodes "Billy,"
"Lullaby" and "Waiting in the Wings," deleted
scenes with optional commentary, the featurettes "Darla:
Deliver Us from Evil," "Page to Screen" and "Season
3 Overview," outtakes, screen tests and a still gallery with
approximately 50 images. Retail is $69.95. In Living Color:
Season 1 streets on February 3rd and spans four discs
and includes 4:3 full screen transfers, Dolby 2.0 surround tracks
and audio commentaries on select episodes and the "Back in
Step with the Fly Girls" featurette. Retail is $39.95. And
at last making its DVD debut on February 17th is Roswell:
Season One, a six-disc set which includes all 23 first
season episodes presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and
Dolby 2.0 surround. Extras include audio commentaries on the episodes
"Pilot," "285 South," "Blood Brother,"
"Heat Wave," "Independence Day," " Max
to the Max" and "Destiny," deleted scenes with
optional commentary, a gag reel, audition footage and the "Save
Yourself" music video. Retail is $59.95.

Rounding out today's news is the latest from Woody Allen. On
December 23rd, DreamWorks Home Entertainment will release the
New York auteur's romantic comedy Anything Else,
starring American Pie's Jason Biggs and Christina Ricci. In typical
Woody fashion, there are no extras aside from the trailer, and
the flick is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby
2.0 stereo. Retail is $26.95.
