'Dawson's Creek,' more Columbia; 'Cheers,' 'Frasier' season 2 box sets

Kicking off this week's news is the latest from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment. Their slim December 16th lineup contains only three new titles. Called "thought-provoking" on the press release, Dawson's Creek: The Complete Second Season includes 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby 2.0 surround tracks, plus audio commentaries on select episodes (participants not indicated), an interactive tour of Capeside, a glimpse at the "Dawson's Creek Summer Diaries" and rescored music "selected by the executive producer." Retail for this 4-disc set will be $39.95.

Also included in Columbia's December 16th menages a trois is the foreign favorite Bonjour Tristess, which features a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and both Portuguese and English Dolby 2.0 stereo tracks, and Henry Fool, presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and English 2.0 stereo. There are no extras, and retail is set at $27.95 each.

Yes, it just won't stop. Paramount Home Entertainment has just announced a batch of TV favorites due to hit DVD on January 6th. Cheers: The Complete Second Season and Frasier: The Complete Second Season will boast the same lineup as before: 4:3 full screen transfers, Dolby 2.0 tracks and no major extras. Retail will set ya back $49.95 a pop.

Is there a special someone in your life who is also a Charlie Brown fan? Then make sure you pick them up a copy A Charlie Brown Valentine, the TV favorite also due on the 6th. Presented in 4:3 full screen transfer and Dolby 2.0, extras include the bonus episodes "There's No Time for Love, Charlie Brown" and "Some Day You'll Find Her Charlie Brown" and retail will cost you $19.95. More animated fun to be had includes another SpongeBob SquarePants collection, The Seascape Capers. Featuring four episodes and extras to be announced, retail will be $19.95.

Be afraid, be very afraid. Making the Band 2: The Best of Season 1 collection hits stores on December 2nd and also is presented in 4:3 full screen and 2.0 stereo with additional behind the scenes material and a retail price of $19.95. And last but not least on December 23rd comes the French mob thriller Crime Spree, presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1, with no extras. The price you can't refuse? $24.95.
