Fox January lineup; 'Dirty Dancing' redux; Warner & BBC TV on DVD

Kicking off today's news are the latest new announcements from Fox Home Entertainment, who will celebrate the career of Cary Grant in January. The studio will release five of his best on January 6th: Born to Be Bad, I Was a Male War Bride, Kiss Them for Me, People Will Talk and Monkey Business, co-starring Marilyn Monroe. All are presented in their original 1.33:1 theatrical aspect ratios and feature 2.0 stereo remixes. All but the Monroe title include a still gallery, something called "Brain Soup" plus trailers. Retail is $14.95 a pop.

Also due on January 6th are two more TV on DVD releases, including the premiere of Lost in Space: Season 1. This classic sci-fi TV drama gets the remastered treatment in its original 4:3 full screen aspect ratio, plus English and Spanish mono tracks, the original unaired pilot "No Place to Hide" and a 5-minute "CBS Network Presentation." This 8-disc set will retail for $79.95.

And returning to DVD is The Shield: Season 2. 4:3 Full screen transfers and Dolby Digital 2.0 surround tracks highlight the set, which also includes a wealth of extras: audio commentaries by cast and crew on four episodes, no less than 38 Deleted scenes, a "Connie Gets Shot" Scene Evolution with commentary, the featurettes "Wrap Day," "Director's Roundtable" and "Raising the Barn," a Season 3 teaser spot and ROM extras to be announced. Retail will set you back $59.95.

Nobody Put's Baby in a Corner - 11:49am

Have the time of your life...again. Yep, you knew it was coming. From the studio that brought you 1,239 versions of Terminator 2 and an unrated edition of Boat Trip comes the Dirty Dancing: Ultimate Edition. Artisan Entertainment will release this new two-disc set on December 9th, just in time to help cross-promote the upcoming theatrical release of the sequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Featuring a newly-remastered 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfers and Dolby Digital Surround EX and DTS 6.1 ES surround tracks, extras include the same audio commentary from the previous DVD with the producers, a text trivia track, costumer designers and choreographers; new interviews with Jennifer Grey and other cast, a director featurette, Grey's screen test footage, trailers and music videos. Dropped from this release is the "Dirty Dancing Live" special included on previous edition. Retail will be a mere $19.95.

TV on DVD - 11:49am

The flood of TV on DVD announcements just won't quite. Just in from Warner Home Video and BBC Video is a January 10th arrival for Ballykissangel: Complete Series One and Complete Series Two. Each two-disc set features 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby 2.0 stereo tracks, plus a featurette, additional behind-the-scenes footage, filmographies and the "Summer Holiday in Ballykissangel" a tour of Avoca. Retail is $39.95. Also due for release on the 20th is Allo Allo!: Complete Series One, which also gets the 4:3 full screen and Dolby 2.0 stereo treatment and additional extras: a 1985 interview with star Gordon Kaye, the complete script for the pilot, a TV special excerpt and a special cast rendition of "Under the Bridges of Paris." Retail is also $34.95.

Last but not least is the highly-anticipated DVD debut of Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete First Season, which is set to arrive on January 13th. This two-disc set includes 4:3 full screen transfers and Dolby 2.0 stereo tracks, plus audio commentary with the cast including Larry David, Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines and Bob Weide, an exclusive interview with Larry David conducted by Bob Costas on HBO's "On the Record," additional interviews and episodic previews. Retail is $39.95.
