'Bad Boys II,' 'Gigli,' more Columbia December titles; 'Highlander' season 3

Back in Action - 7:55pm

No, it is not deep, but then no one seemed to care. Grossing over $100 million at the domestic box office this past summer, subtraction Michael Bay reteamed with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for Bad Boys II, the sequel to their hit 1996 original. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release the sensitive character study on December 9th as a feature-laden two-disc set, complete with 2.35;1 anamorphic widescreen and full screen transfers, a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, a "Production Diaries" documentary, "Visual effects" featurette, deleted scenes and scenes deconstructions, storyboards, a music video and trailers. No audio commentary is included. Retail is $28.95.

Also due for release on December 9th is most highly-acclaimed blockbuster of the year, Gigli. Starring the acting powerhouse known only as "Bennifer," this legendary fiasco should be hitting the Kmart bargain bins the week after release, and includes only widescreen and full screen transfers, Dolby 5.1 and 2.0 surround tracks and no extras. What, no two-hour documentary!? No Superbit? No Gigli Ultimate Edition!? Sigh. Retail is $26.95.

Rounding out Columbia's December 9th lineup are three new catalog releases. The Best of The Muppet Show: Steve Martin includes three episodes and also highlights appearances by Carol Burnett and Gilda Radner. Each episode is presented in 4:3 full screen and the only extras are bonus trailers. Retail is $19.95. Also due for release is the John Le Carre thriller The Looking Glass War, starring Anthony Hopkins. The disc comes in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with a Dolby mono track, plus the trailer. Retail is $24.95. And from the comedic genius that is Pauly Shore comes Jury Duty, which gets a 4:3 full screen only transfer and Dolby 2.0 surround track. Bonus trailers round out the package, and retail will set you back $19.95.

The Quickening - 6:28pm

Rounding up today's news is the return of the immortals. On November 18th, Anchor Bay Entertainment will release Highlander: Season Three, a 7-disc box set that will include a wealth of extras that easily bests all of the previous series box set releases. Each episode is presented in 4:3 full screen, and extras include a "vast library" of deleted, alternate and recently discovered scenes, the "Watcher Chronicles" featurette, new interviews with over 20 main cast and crew, audio commentaries on select episodes by Adrian Paul, Stan Kirsch, Gillian Horvath, Anthony Delongis, Elizabeth Gracen and more, a blooper reel, a still gallery and season promo spots. A bonus CD-ROM will also include the complete scripts for all 22 episodes, cast and crew filmographies and trivia. Retail is $89.95.
