'Alex & Emma'; more 'Sex and the City'; A&E TV on DVD

Yikes! What happened to Rob Reiner? After a string of hits and misses, his latest romantic drama Alex & Emma was slated for great things, but opened to rather dreadful reviews and empty movie screens. Overlooked gem or another example of a director who should just call it quits? Decide for yourself on December 23rd when Warner Home Video will release the misbegotten comedy in separate anamorphic widescreen and full screen editions, both with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks, audio commentary by Reiner and star Luke Wilson and the trailer. Retail is $27.95.

Also just announced from Warner is the kiddie favorite The Little Polar Bear. This heartwarming tale will hit stores on December 2nd and features a 4:3 full screen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 surround tracks. There are no extras, but retail is a mere $19.95.

Sluts in the City - 1:30pm

Cover your children's eyes and ears... it is the return of everyone's favorite horny urbanites, the girls of Sex and the City: The Complete Fifth Season. HBO Home Video will debut this four-disc set on December 30th, complete with 4:3 full screen transfers, Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 surround tracks, audio commentary with Michael Patrick King (on select episodes), a making-of featurette the "Sex and the City" interactive trivia game with over 30 questions, filmographies and episodic previews. Retail is $49.95. Don't you just want it now?

Boob Tube - 1:30pm

Rounding out today's news is yet more TV on DVD. Just announced from A&E Home Video. is an October 28th release date for Homicide: Life On The Street - The Complete Season 3. Each episode is presented in 4:3 full screen transfers and English Dolby 2.0 stereo, along with extras including audio commentary on two episodes, promo spots and episodes synopses. Retail is $99.95.

Also due for release on the 28th is Brooklyn South: The Complete Series. Steven Bochco's acclaimed and controversial series ran for only 22 episodes, all of which are presented here in 4:3 full screen and 2.0 stereo. Extras include audio commentary with co-creator David Milch on the pilot episode, filmographies, "Ten Codes" police production notes and episode synopses. Retail will also set you back $99.95.
