documentary and more, plus the killer dog movie Man's Best
Friend and not one but all four Critters flicks. Retail
is $19.95 each, and stay tuned for the full specs.
If horror isn't your cup of tea, New Line will also be releasing
two family "favorites" on July 8th: TV funnyman Bob
Saget in Father and Scout (god help us) and the Whoopi
Goldberg atrocity Theodore Rex. The later features anamorphic

Horror
show - 1:49pm
Speaking of things that go bump in the night, Warner Home Video
will release a bundle of horror greats on August 5th: the original
masterpiece The Haunting, Vincent Price in House of
Wax (not in 3-D), the killer rat-fest Of Unknown Origin,
Charlton Heston in the oft-delayed The Omega Man, the movie
that absolutely terrorized me as a child, Soylent Green,
a new 50th anniversary edition of the Howard Hawks classic The
Thing, and Audrey Hepburn in Wait Until Dark. And for
you John Carpenter fans, at long last comes the last of the director's
oeuvre not yet released on DVD, Memoirs of an Invisible Man,
which streets on August 17th. Retail is $19.95 each, and watch
this space for further details.
And for our UK readers, or those Region-free enabled, more news
on that overseas Friday the 13th special edition due this
fall from Warner Home Video. In addition to the new documentary
"Return to Crystal Lake," the DVD will also feature
an audio commentary by director Sean Cunningham, stars Adrienne
King and Betsy Palmer, composer Harry Manfredini and more. The
disc will feature the international cut of the film (a few seconds
bloodier than the R-rated domestic release) but as of presstime,
will not be released in the U.S. by Paramount Home Entertainment.
Perhaps someday Paramount will wake up and smell the bloody machete
and give Mrs. Voorhees her due? Stay tuned...
Dynamic
duo - 1:49pm
All this horror too much for you? Then laughter is the best medicine.
The Bob & David website has just announced that HBO Home Video
will release Mr. Show: The Complete Third Season on August
12th. According to the site, the set will include the usual "annoying
audio commentary with the full cast and writers blathering endlessly,
apologizing, celebrating their own minor achievements." Additional
extras include an appearance by David Cross as the "Hot College
Comic" at the HBO Aspen fest, and more. Retail is $29.95.
Mecha-Streisand - 1:49pm
Rounding out today's scary update, here's the most terrifying
monster of all time: Barbra Streisand! Warner Home Video has just
announced quite a coup and cause for much celebration among Babs
fans. Le Streisand has recorded four full-length, screen-specific
audio commentaries for the oft-delayed DVD releases of What's
Up Doc (also features commentary by director Peter Bogdanovich),
Up the Sandbox (also includes commentary with director
Irvin Kershner) and The Main Event and Nuts. All
will now street on July 1st and will be available separately for
$19.95 a pop or as part of The Streisand Collection box set for
$69.95. Like buttah.
