'Talk to Her,' more Columbia Superbits; Artisan debuts 'Motown'

Legend of the Superbits - 12:00am

Just in from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment are a number of new announcements and street dates. Set for release on May 13th are four new additions to their Superbit line: Men in Black, Men in Black II, XXX, and Michael Bay's Bad Boys. All are standard single-disc Superbit titles with anamorphic widescreen transfers, Dolby Digital and DTS surround tracks, and no extras. Retail is $28.95. Also being repriced to this rather odd MSRP are four Superbit Deluxe releases: Hollow Man, Mask of Zorro, The Patriot and Snatch.

Making their DVD debuts on May 13th are the foreign imports Borderline and Pedro Almodovar's Oscar-nominated Talk to Her. Retail on both is $26.95. And from the vaults comes the catalog gems Commandos Strike at Dawn, 1992's Full Contact, Hellcats of the Navy and The War Lover, and for you TV fans, The Jeffersons: The Complete Second Season and The Three Stooges Go Around the World in a Daze. Watch this space for specs.

Shadow dancing - 12:00am

From such classics as "My Girl" to "I Was Made to Love Her," what was once a fledging little record company became one of the most influential labels of the modern era. On April 22nd, Artisan Entertainment will debut the acclaimed documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown, which chronicles the rise of Berry Gordy's revolutionary impact on popular music. This two-disc set comes packed with material: an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital and DTS tracks, audio commentary with the filmmakers, subtitle fact track, deleted scenes, "The Ones That Didn't Make It" and "At Long Last Glory" featurettes, the original "Dinner with the Funk Brothers" short, multi-angle jam sessions, video biographies, a music video montage, discographies, and some DVD-ROM extras including an interactive Virtual Recording Studio. Retail is just $22.98.

A bug's DVD - 12:00am

Rounding out today's news are a couple of Buena Vista street dates. Making its return to the format after being on moratorium, Disney will reissue the A Bug's Life Collector's Edition on May 27th. Features are the same as the previous release. And bumped to a new June 17th street date is the direct-to-video sequel Dracula II: The Ascension. Stay tuned for the full specs.
