In a highly unusual move for a major studio, Buena Vista Home Entertainment has just signed a new five-year distribution deal with MGM Home Entertainment to release 66 of their most popular catalog titles. Previously released through Anchor Bay Entertainment, popular favorites such as Prizzi's Honor, Silkwood, Watcher in the Woods, Flamingo Kid, and the Hitchcock classics Rebecca and Notorious are a part of the deal, which MGM will reissue on DVD starting in 2003 after the Anchor Bay term ends.

While most major studios usually release their own top catalog, Buena Vista chose MGM for their "strong presence in the theatrical library business," according to MGM Entertainment Group COO Tony Bishop. MGM plans to add new features to these reissues to differentiate them in the marketplace, and will release all 66 titles by the end of 2004.

Stay tuned for more details on the first releases - Prizzi's Honor, Duel in the Sun, Straw Dogs and Silkwood - due in mid-2003, as well as more information on the remaining titles.
