Hoping to drive a stake into new year's DVD sales, Buffy returns
on January 7th, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete
Third Season. This four-disc set features every third season
episode presented in 4:3 full screen with English, French and
Spanish Dolby 2.0 surround tracks. Extras include audio commentaries
on the episodes "Helpless," "Bad Girls," "Consequences"
and "Earshot," the featurettes "Season 3 Overview,"
"Buffy Speaks," "Special Effects," "Wardrobe"
and "Weapons," interviews with series creator Joss Whedon
on "Bad Girls," "Consequences," "Enemies,"
"Earshot," and "Graduation Day (Parts 1 & 2),"
an additional interview with monster maker John Vultich, scripts
for "Faith, Hope and Trick," "Brain Candy,"
"The Wish" and "Lover's Walk," and cast bios.
Retail is $59.95.
Fox also has three cinema classics on tap for January 14th, the
first in their new Studio Classics series of restored and remastered
special editions. One of the most decorated films in Oscar history,
All About Eve features a newly-restored 1.37:1 transfer,
first-ever audio commentary by Celeste Holm, Bette Davis and Anne
Baxter promotional spots, "MovieTone News: Academy Awards
Honor Best Film Achievements" and "MovieTone News: Hollywood
Attends Gala Premiere of "All About Eve" vintage newsreels,
a restoration comparison, the complete original screenplay, and
theatrical trailers. Another Oscar winner for Best Picture in
the lineup is How Green Was My Valley, also newly restored
and presented in 1.37:1, with extras including an audio commentary
by Maureen O'Hara, a still gallery, the complete original screenplay,
and trailers. Rounding out the slate is Gentleman's Agreement,
presented in 1.37;1 full screen with an audio commentary featuring
Gregory Peck, Celeste Holm and director Elia Kazan, a still gallery,
the complete original screenplay, and theatrical trailers. Retail
is $19.95 each.

You've seen the smash Broadway musical, now see the hit movie...again.
Previously available only as part of the John Waters Collection
two-pack with Pecker, on 12/10 New Line will release a stand-alone
version of the trash auteur's cult classic Hairspray. Features
are the same as those on the previous release, including a 1.85:1
anamorphic widescreen version of the film, English 5.1 and 2.0
Dolby surround tracks, an audio commentary by Waters and the films
star, Ricki Lake, filmographies and the trailer. Retail is $19.95.
New to DVD on December 10th are three quirky indie flicks that
played to little fanfare this past year, but may find a new audience
on DVD. Finn Taylor's acclaimed Cherish, the Tim Robbins
and Patricia Arquette romance Human Nature, and The
Invisible Circus with Cameron Diaz all feature anamorphic
widescreen and full screen transfers, English 5.1 and 2.0 Dolby
surround tracks, theatrical trailers, and ROM extras including
scripts and weblinks. Retail is $26.95 each.
