Dueling
bikes - 12:01am
Ah, another 80's classic/DVD no-show bites the dust. On 12/10,
Columbia will finally release the Kevin Bacon bike messenger fave
Quicksilver. Alas - and get ready to gnash your teeth -
they've elected to release this one in full frame only, with English
and French 2.0 Dolby surround tracks, English, French, Spanish
and Japanese subtitles, and trailers. Retail is $24.95.
Also set for a 12/10 release are two acclaimed indies, My
Wife is an Actress and Innocence. Each are relatively
bare bones, with only anamorphic widescreen transfers and trailers
as extras. Retail is $29.95 a pop.
More of the night HE came home - 12:01am
Just in from Buena Vista are the full details for a number of
their most eagerly-awaited fourth quarter titles. First up are
the full specs for two of their big summer hits. Reign of Fire
streets on 11/9 and will include a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen
transfer, English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks, "A
Conversation with Rob Bowman" and "The Special Effects
of Reign of Fire" featurettes, and trailers. Halloween:
Resurrection debuts on 12/10 and will come even more feature-loaded,
featuring a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, audio commentary
with director Rick Rosenthal and editor Robert Ferretti, deleted
and alternate scenes with commentary, "Web Cam" multi-angle
feature with commentary, "On the Set with Jamie Lee Curtis,"
"Head Cam" and "Set Tour" production design
featurettes, a still gallery, and three multi-angle storyboard
comparisons. (Due to all the features, the disc will no longer
contain a DTS track as previously announced.) Retail is $29.95
each.
Also just in are specs on two catalog favorites that we keep
receiving lots of email on, the "30th Anniversary Edition"
of the survival tale Alive, and Peter Jackson's uber-cult classic
Heavenly Creatures. The Alive disc streets on 10/8 and
will include a 1.85:1 non-anamorphic transfer, "Return to
the Andes" and "20 Years Later: The Making of Alive"
featurettes, and the trailer. And finally, we've received our
review copy of Heavenly Creatures today, and despite the
press release info stating a 99-minute running time, the disc
does include the "Uncut version" and runs 109 minutes.
(Watch for a full review real soon!) Retail is $19.95 each.
