'Country Bears;' 'Juwanna Mann;' new Anchor Bay box sets

One of the strangest films to come along in many a year, if you want a really trippy experience, check out Disney's The Country Bears when it makes its DVD debut on 12/17. Presented in full frame only, extras include a featurette, deleted footage, two interactive games, a music video, trailers, and additional ROM extras. Retail is $29.95.

Speaking of odd ones, on 11/17 Warner will debut a special edition of the basketball comedy Juwanna Mann. Presented in anamorphic widescreen with English and French 5.1 Dolby surround tracks, extras include an audio commentary with director Jesse Vaughn, deleted scenes, two making-of featurettes, a music video, and the trailer. Retail is $26.95.

The quickening - 12:01am

Rounding out the start of this week's news, Anchor Bay has a batch of long-awaited box sets sure to please fans. Arriving on 11/5 is Highlander The Series: Season One, an 8-disc set featuring every first season episode, each presented in full frame. Extras include a collectible booklet, interviews with executive producer Bill Panzer, character profiles, outtakes and bloopers, and series promos. Retail is $89.95.

Next up The Carry On Collection, a collection of 13 installments in the famed - and controversial - long-running British comedy series. Included are the full-length That's Carry On, plus 12 more installments spread across 6 discs: "Carry On Nurse" and "Carry On Sergeant," "Carry On Teacher" and "Carry On Constable," "Carry On Regardless" and "Carry On Cruising," "Carry On Cabby" and "Carry On Spying," "Carry On Cleo" and "Carry On Jack," "Carry On Cowboy" and "Carry On Screaming." All are presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and English mono, and no extras aside from liner notes and trailers. Retail is $89.95.

Last but not least is The Complete Musketeers two-pack, featuring Richard Lester's The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers. Each is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, with extras including the all-new "The Saga Begins..." and "The Saga Continues..." featurettes, the original "The Making of the Four Musketeers" featurette, still galleries, and trailers. Retail is just $34.95 for the set.
