TWO
OF THE HIGHEST-GROSSING FILMS OF ALL TIME
The
combined boxoffice gross for Jurassic Park and
The Lost World has exceeded $1.5 billion
worldwide and both films remain among the Top 10 Highest-Grossing
films of all time.
Released
in 1993, Jurassic Park remains the all-time
international boxoffice champ, grossing over $705 million
within a mere 115 days of its initial theatrical release,
breaking the previous record set by Spielbergs
own ET The Extra-Terrestrial. It was
the
first film to implement the new DTS (Digital Theater
System) sound system and quickly earned accolades from
critics and audiences for the films groundbreaking
computerized visual and shattering sound effects, particularly
the strikingly realistic- acting dinosaurs. The film
earned Academy Awards for "Best Sound," "Best
Sound Effects" and "Best Visual Effects."
Based
on the best-selling novel by Michael Crichton and reminiscent
of the thrilling adventure of King Kong and the
terrifying suspense of Jaws, Jurassic Park
stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum,
and Sir Richard Attenborough, in the tale of the ultimate
theme park, filled with wondrously recreated dinosaurs,
where an unforeseen security breakdown results with
dire consequences.
The
Lost World, the blockbuster sequel released
in 1997, earned $230 million during its domestic run,
and raised the special effects stakes impressively while
maintaining the non-stop excitement and thrills of the
first film. Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite,
and Vince Vaughn star in the story of yet another attempt
to exploit the prehistoric creatures of profit, only
this time, the terror comes to the mainland.
As
two of the most prominent and dazzling action adventure
titles of the cinema, Jurassic Park and
The Lost World make ideal additions to
any home entertainment library. With the unique DVD
features that give audiences an opportunity to become
a part of the Jurassic Park III experience, both
titles become indispensable.
