Arriving In a Two-DVD Set on May 22,
The DVD Includes Commentary by John Waters
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 19, 2001) -- New Line Home
Video today announced the release of the two-disc DVD of classic films
from writer-director John Waters, the quirky Pecker and the irreverent
Hairspray. Featuring two of Waters best known cult classics, the two-DVD
set offers Hairspray on DVD for the first time. The entire set including
both films is available for $24.98 on May 22.
Hairspray Assembles a Wacky Set of Stars
With huge hair, a big grin and all the right moves, Tracy
Turnblad (Ricki Lake, making her feature film debut, The Ricki Lake
Show) has what it takes to make it on Baltimore's number one dance revue
in 1962, "The Corny Collins Show." Now a teen hero, she starts
using her fame to speak out for the causes she believes in, most of
all integration. In doing so, she earns the wrath of the show's former
star, Amber Von Tussel (Colleen Fitzpatrick, now known as the singer,
Vitamin C) as well as Amber's evil parents who cook up a plot to steal
back Amber's teen queen crown. Standing in their way are Tracy's own
funny folks (Divine and Seinfeld's Jerry Stiller). Featuring comic performances
from Sonny Bono, Debbie Harry, Ric Ocasek, and Pia Zadora.
Pecker is an Offbeat Comedy
Waters chronicles Pecker, America's most unlikely superstar
photographer, a Baltimore teenager who picks up a second hand camera
and starts snapping his way to stardom. Pecker showcases the bizarre
contrast between the New York art world and blue-collar Baltimore. The
wickedly funny and heartfelt film features Edward Furlong (American
History X, Detroit Rock City, Terminator 2) and Christina Ricci (Sleepy
Hollow, The Opposite of Sex), Lili Taylor (High Fidelity, I Shot Andy
Warhol) and Martha Plimpton (200 Cigarettes, Beautiful Girls).
